Welcome
You have entered the world of Newham’s
hottest environmental group going.
Well done for finding us.
Fossil Free Newham formed in Spring 2017 as a divestment group, seeking to persuade Newham Council to end all pension fund investments in fossil fuels.
Divestment is a global movement that has pushed public institutions such as universities, churches, and local government pension funds, to divest approximately $7 billion dollars in total away from the fossil fuel industry since 2012. The figures have risen exponentially, year on year, and new groups are sprouting up on every corner of the planet. It is becoming more and more evident, that divestment is to play a crucial role in the fight against climate change.
Since their launch in Spring 2017, Fossil Free Newham have dedicated their time to raising awareness of divestment and climate change across the borough. They have organised events in Forest Gate, Olympic Park, and at the University of East London, and meet regularly with the key decision-makers on Newham’s Pension Fund Committee.
